Linda Hewson has occupied several roles within Selfridges since she joined the company in June 2001. She started out as a Visual Merchandising Manager for the London store, then led the windows team before becoming Director of Windows. She took over from Alannah Weston as Creative Director in February 2014. Previous employers included Habitat where Linda was Visual Merchandiser Manager.

If there was one piece of art you could feature in, which would it be and why?

I would be drawn towards either being the lonely silhouettes that look out to sea in Caspar David Friedrich's romanticism paintings or being Gormley's Angel of the North looking out over the North of England. What does that (worryingly) say about me? I'm melancholic, a sucker for sunsets, sublime nature, and blue-sky thinking.

Who inspires you and why? An artist, a family member, someone current or historical?

Grayson Perry, Jeremy Deller, Cornelia Parker, Charles Eisenstein, Jeanette Winterson, The XX, my mother, my partner, my Creative team at Selfridges.

What are your cultural aspirations? What do you still want to see, do and achieve?

What I am doing now. I am lucky to have the opportunity to work on many creative projects every year and see all of them come into fruition. Other than that, I have still not been to Japan!

What are your favourite cultural cities in the world and why?

London is my life and soul, New York for its lifestyle and food, and Berlin for the relaxed but edgy stylishness of the place and people.

What are you up to at the moment and where can we find it?

Keep looking at the Selfridges website to stay updated! We have just launched our latest creative project called 'Strength' which explores power, potency and endurance in our lifestyles. Check out the film directed by Kathryn Ferguson featuring an exciting new drummer/musician called Georgia.
