ARIC CHEN
Aric Chen is Lead Curator for Design and Architecture at M+, the new museum for visual culture currently under construction in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District. He previously served as inaugural Creative Director of Beijing Design Week, and has organized exhibitions and projects at museums, biennials and other events internationally. Chen has written for numerous publications including The New York Times, Monocle, Architectural Record and PIN-UP.
If there was one piece of art you could feature in, which would it be and why?
Ron Herron (of Archigram)’s Walking City, for its vision of a mobile world where no one needs to be left behind.
Who inspires you and why? An artist, a family member, someone current or historical?
Xuanzang, the Tang dynasty monk who TRAVELLED to India in search of enlightenment, without the emperor’s permission.
What are your cultural aspirations? What do you still want to see, do and achieve?
Helping to build a great museum.
What are your favourite cultural cities in the world and why?
New York, London, Berlin, of course; Mexico City for its many strata; Beijing for its resilience.
